A PROFESSOR has been named a trustee of a charitable education trust at West Dean College.
Professor Paul O’Prey has been appointed a new trustee for the Edward James Foundation.
In 1964, Edward James conveyed his family mansion, art collection and estate to The Edward James Foundation, and the creation of this trust allowed the realisation of Edward’s vision: to create an educational community dedicated to the arts and crafts.
The gates of Edward James’ family estate were later opened under the auspices of West Dean College.
The trustees have taken great care to restore the house to the highest possible standards.
This ethos still permeates every activity of the foundation.
Professor O’Prey will support the board of trustees and the foundation on academic matters and brings a wealth of experience, having held the post of vice-chancellor of Roehampton University for more than ten years.
His publications include several books and articles on writers of the 19th and 20th century, notably Graham Greene and Robert Graves and his circle, as well as translations of Spanish literature.
Professor O’Prey said: “West Dean College has a fantastic reputation in the world of conservation and the creative arts.
“I am very excited to be joining the board of trustees and look forward to working with my fellow trustees, and with all the staff, students and friends of West Dean.”
