A Wildwood restaurant stands to lose its kitchen under an enforcement notice from Chichester District Council.
The eatery in Southgate was found to have breached planning conditions prohibiting the use of the area to the back of the listed building as anything other than a store or covered yard.
All ovens and extraction equipment must be removed from the store or covered yard area within the four-month compliance period.
External vents and associated pipework for the kitchen were also found to have been constructed without planning permission at the Georgian Grade II listed building.
Speaking at a meeting of Chichester City Council last night, Cllr Nigel Galloway said he knew that residents who live behind the restaurant would be very happy that action was being taken.
The restaurant owners may appeal the notice.
Wildwood have now commented on the dispute.
