A 68-YEAR-OLD mother will take to Las Vegas for her 27th marathon to raise money in memory of her family dog Truffle.

Jan Barnes, of Garland Close, Chichester, will be taking part in the Las Vegas Marathon to raise funds for Canine Partners.

Known as the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, the 26.2 mile course will take her through the streets and sights of Las Vegas.

The retired teacher will set off from Las Vegas Boulevard at 4.30pm on November 16.

Jan’s family dog Truffle played a big part in Jan’s training for several marathons before passing away about two months ago so Jan decided to take part in this event in her memory.

“Truffle, my son’s chocolate Labrador, was devoted to the family, coping with the arrival of two boys in her time with an unflinching sense of duty to care, a constant feature at the family sports shop and aided me in my training for several marathons.

“The work of Canine Partners in training dogs to change the lives of people with disabilities is truly inspirational.

“I am always asked if I’m supporting a cause when I take part in these events, so it will be a pleasure to spread the word further about Canine Partners.”

Canine Partners trains dogs to assist people with disabilities.

Her last 12 marathons have all been power-walked with a PB at five hours 20 minutes but this will have a time limit of five hours, so she will have to alternate between speed walking and running.

Jan will be challenge further by having to run with more than 30,000 other participants.

So far she has raised £140 of her £500 target.
