Seaside baby boomers growing up in the 1960s

These pictures were published in the Chichester Observer in 1964 and show south coast youngsters making their way through the joys and challenges of childhood and into adulthood.

From snowball fights and joining the guides to university days and buying their first set of wheels, the 1960s were certainly a fascinating time to be young.

1964 was the year Alec Douglas-Home was ousted as Prime Ministers by Harold Wilson, the Queen gave birth to Prince Edward, Winston Churchill retired from the House of Commons, and Donald Campbell set the world speed record on water.

Liverpool won the First Division title for the sixth time and West Ham the FA Cup for the first time.

It was the year the world welcomed Bill Bailey, Bonnie Langford, Christopher Ecclestone, Kathy Burke and Andy Serkis, who would grow up to become actors, comedians and entertainers.

We said farewell to James Bond author and journalist Ian Fleming, poet Edith Sitwell and author TH White, all of whom passed away in 1964.
