The lifeboat was requested by UK Coastguards and was launched at 12.30pm after the French helicopter stated that what looked like a wheel house from a fishing vessel was 12 miles south east of Selsey Bill.

The Coastguard rescue helicopter from Lee on Solent was also tasked to the search area.

After a comprehensive search of the area, nothing was found.

Both the lifeboat and helicopter were stood down at 2.23pm and the all-weather lifeboat returned to station at 3.10pm.
