A SELSEY legal firm has been embroiled in a police investigation, with a 45-year-old woman charged with stealing money from a family’s estate.

Sussex Police said Emma Coates, 45, of West Street, Selsey, has been charged with fraud by abuse of position.

A spokesman said: “Officers were contacted last year with a complaint about the way a Selsey legal firm, Coates and Co, was handling the distribution of a Middlesex woman’s estate after her death.”

He said Coates was released on bail to appear at City of London Magistrates’ Court on March 26.

“The allegation involves the misappropriation of £85,000 from the estate between January, 2013, and November, 2014,” he said.
