Mike Warren, managing director of Harbour Hotels, said: “We are very excited to be taking the Harbour Hotels brand to Chichester - it’s an exciting location and a key strategic position from our perspective.

“The Ship is a prestigious, landmark property with some outstanding features.

“There is an excellent team of staff at the property and we are delighted to have such an addition to the Harbour Hotels portfolio.”

Gary Witham, hotels director at Savills, added: “This hotel differs from the primarily limited service options in the area and has a strong trading record as well as above average occupancy of 75 per cent.

“The planning consent for additional rooms offers the opportunity to increase profitability and, as such, it appealed to numerous high end operators.

“The quality of the property and the ability to run a targeted confidential process generated a very competitive sale price with no disruption to the business.”
