A SPECIAL poetry and pizza evening will be held in Southbourne to celebrate National Poetry Day next month.
The event will be led by local writer Lizzie Chittleboro and hosted at Tuppenny Barn, an organic farm and shop, on Thursday, October 2.
Project director Maggie Haynes said: “The evening will be an informal and relaxed way to enjoy National Poetry Day.”
This year’s National Poetry Day theme is ‘Remember!’ and organisers at Tuppenny Barn are hoping to create a large community collage and poem to celebrate the occasion.
Stanstead Park Farm Shop will be providing poetry-themed pizzas accompanied by glasses of wine for the evening, which is also part of the Emsworth British Food Fortnight.
Everyone attending will be asked to bring a photo of a landscape or garden that means something to them to contribute to the collage.
They will then be given the opportunity to get involved with creative writing by adding words to the pictures they bring and creating a community poem.
“We will be including photos and memories from the early days of Tuppenny Barn and look forward to sharing these with everyone else,” Ms Haynes added.
Tuppeny Barn has been growing organic fruits and vegetables since 2005 and runs events from its education centre.
Last year’s National Poetry Day involved readings by the Prince of Wales on the theme of ‘Water’ and poets performing throughout the London Underground.
The price for the poetry and pizza evening is £18 including food and wine and anyone interested in attending should visit Tuppeny Barn
