A DIAMOND couple have put their 60 years of happy marriage down to enjoying sports together and never arguing.
Donald Stoner, 81, and his wife Eileen, 82, have lived in Chichester all their lives and have only moved around the corner in all their married lives.
They lived in Whyke Lane for 46 years then moved to Old Bakery Gardens 14 years ago.
Don said: “We’ve been very very happy.
“I can’t remember us ever having an argument.
“We just both know when to calm it down a bit and walk away and come back when it’s a better time.”
The couple knew each other for several years before their relationship began because they socialised at dances and a table tennis club.
Don was a member of Pagham Cricket Club for 46 years and it was there they met one evening and their relationship formed.
Since then they’ve always enjoyed playing cricket, golf and short tennis together.
They enjoyed an anniversary celebration in Worcester at the weekend with their daughter Gillian, son Roy, and grandsons Alex and William.
The also received a celebratory card from the Queen which came with a frame they have used and put it up on their wall.
On being asked what their secret was, Eileen said: “It’s hard to explain. We get on well together and enjoy doing things together.”
Don joked that he also liked to be able to tell people that he’s her toy boy.
