FIREFIGHTERS have been called out five times to grass fires in Chichester since Tuesday (July 16).

On Tuesday, crews from East Wittering were called out to South Pallant car park and the Avenue De Chartres car park in Chichester when grass was on fire.

On Wednesday, Chichester firefighters went to Blackboy Lane in Fishbourne at 5.30pm after a fire on wasteland.

And two more similar incidents occurred yesterday (Thursday, July 18), when Chichester and Havant fire crews were dispatched to the A27 at Chichester where a blaze had started on the central reservation at around 11.30pm.

Just an hour later Chichester firefighters headed back to the Avenue De Chartes multi-storey car park, where grass next to a pathway behind the car park was alight.

A spokesman said this fire was caused by a discarded cigarette.
