A MIDSUMMER tea party will be held this weekend to mark the 200th anniversary of an ‘historic gem’.
The Friends of St John’s Chapel will host the party to celebrate the bicentenary of the chapel, in St John’s Street, Chichester.
The tea party will be held from 4pm to 5pm on Saturday (June 22).
Tea and cakes will be on sale in aid of The Churches Conservation Trust.
St John’s opened with a fanfare in September, 1813, and, as a rare surviving example of a Georgian proprietary chapel, is now a Grade-I listed building in the care of The Churches Conservation Trust.
The trust is a national charity working to protect more than 340 ‘at risk’ historic churches.
The friends support its work by helping to maintain St John’s and opening it to the public seven days a week.
