THE weekend was a scorcher and everyone is feeling good as the Observer continues its Summer of Love campaign – and is urging YOU to get involved.
The summer sunshine saw people from across the Observer area show their support to local events this weekend including the Bosham open gardens, the Stansted garden show and the open farm Sunday, so keep an eye out online and in-paper for our coverage of these fantastic events.
The parks and the beaches were also filled over the weekend as residents from across the Bognor Regis, Chichester and Midhurst and Petworth areas enjoyed the local amenities and facilities in the Observer – while others flocked to the shops to support the local businesses.
And to keep this momentum going the Observer is launching a The Longest Day to tie in with our Summer of Love campaign, supported by the Observer’s owners Johnston Press throughout June, and urging readers to go out there and send us pictures and videos of what they are doing on Friday, June 21, the longest day of the year.
It could be something as simple as sitting in your garden, it could be enjoying a lunch at a local businesses, it could be fun after-school (or in-school) activities, it could be a coffee morning at your work!
Whatever you are up to – we want to know about it and we will be sharing them online and in paper with your fellow readers.
The Observer team will also be joining The Longest Day and sharing with you their videos of what they are up to on June 21.
But you don’t have to wait until June 21 to get involved - send us your pictures and videos now of what you love about the Observer area to help spread to feel-good factor.
Email your videos and pictures to email@example.com.
And don’t forget there are other ways to get involved and join in with the Summer of Love.
The Observer is continuing its search for our community heroes so why not nominate someone for an Observer Community Award? There are 17 categories you can nominate in – including best community event, best school and best volunteer – so email firstname.lastname@example.org with your nominees.
If you run a local shop or visitor attraction and want to advertise to our unique local audience not only through our newspaper but our many digital platforms too - we will be delighted to hear from you. Contact us on email@example.com or telephone 01243 730980.
We want our readers to support the diverse range of independent shops which can be found right across the county - and we will be launching some special campaigns to underpin this.
This includes supporting the Independents Day initiative in Chichester on July 4 to encourage shoppers to support the smaller independent businesses in the city
We want to help local businesses stay on their feet and are hoping to do so by helping them to find new customers.
One major summer event the Observer has been hugely involved with is the launch of the very first Festival of Chichester taking place from June 14 to July 13.
It is a month-long extravaganza of arts, crafts, music, spoken words and community events which means there really is something in there for everyone.
For full details of what is happening in its first week see the Observer on sale June 13 for an eight-page special guide.
Our Summer of Love campaign will also encourage local residents to make the most of the facilities and local events in the Bognor Regis, Chichester, Midhurst and Petworth area.
So if you are organising a charitable or community event then tell us about it.
Our reporters will, as ever be delighted to receive your news.
