A MONEY-collecting bear named Westgate Ted has surprised everyone by raising the amazing sum of £811.47.

The bear, owned by Scope, had been quietly collecting money at Westgate Leisure Centre in Chichester before one cleaner reported to his manager how heavy the bear was getting.

Councillor Eileen Lintill, Chichester District Council’s cabinet member for leisure, wellbeing, and community services, said: “A big thank you to all the customers at Westgate Leisure who made a donation. The staff are delighted so much money has been raised for such a good cause.”

Scope would also like to extend thanks for everyone’s generosity and for the lovely surprise. Westgate Ted was opened up on return to The Point, the unique social resource which provides leisure activities for people aged 18 and over with physical disabilities from across the county and run by Scope, West Sussex. The bear has been given a complete makeover.
