TANGMERE Aviation Museum’s tribute to the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain will be held on Sunday.
The event, from 10am to 5pm, marks the day when the Luftwaffe attacked Tangmere at 1pm in the summer of 1940, during the Battle of Britain, when RAF Tangmere was a main sector airfield of Fighter Command in the frontline defence of the UK.
There will be a short Spitfire flying display, an audio re-enactment and plotting table of the 1940 air raid on Tangmere.
Talks and war poetry readings are also included, together with an exhibition by Chichester military sculptor Gregory Percival.
Pam Marsden, press officer, said: “There’s plenty to do for all the family throughout the day with various stalls, tombola, model aircraft, aviation-related games for the children and entertainment, including music from the Battle of Britain period.
“So, climb in a cockpit, enjoy a talk, have fun with the family, visit the museum and Memorial Garden, and enjoy all that is on offer on this special day at Tangmere, where parking is free.
“Refreshments will be available, including a barbecue, drinks and ice-creams, plus there’s the NAAFI cafeteria, or bring a picnic.”
Winners of a special draw, with 15 prizes and a top prize of bottles of wine signed by Battle of Britain pilots, will be selected at 4pm by a Second World War veteran.
Admission is £10 for adults in advance, £12 on the gate. Tickets for children over five are £4 in advance, £5 on the day, and family tickets are £25 in advance, £30 at the gate.
