Teenager with rare bone condition holds tea for hospital

Hannah Weir, of Cypress Avenue, was diagnosed with an aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) in November 2013 and referred from Worthing Hospital to The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH).

She works as a new business development executive for the School Minibus Company, which is based in Chichester Road, Arundel, but most of the staff come from Worthing.

The company has made RNOH its chosen charity due to the outstanding care it has continually provided for Hannah.

Hannah, 17, said: “I am one in a million. I am also the first female in medical history to have my ABC in a bone in my pelvis.

“I want to give back to a hospital that has given me so much help, support and advice throughout my ongoing treatment.

“I was referred to Professor Brigg’s clinic. Here, I received the most incredible treatment for something so rare.

“RNOH is situated on a hill, which is rather ironic as it’s an orthopaedic hospital. It was founded in 1905 and is the location for treatment of complex or rare conditions, including mine.”

She said the care at RNOH had been being flawless but it was in desperate need of more funds to update the hospital and its equipment.

“I am helping them do this by holding an afternoon tea at The Dome in Worthing on May 11,” added Hannah.

“I am doing it for everyone I have ever met at RNOH, the incredible staff, the friends I have made and for people who one day will receive the most incredible treatment there.”

Vintage-style entertainer Dawn Gracie will be singing songs from the 1950s and 1960s while guests tuck into tea and cakes.
