IT WAS weather-dominated day for firefighters on New Year’s Day as gales battered the district.

In East Bracklesham Drive, Bracklesham Bay, a metal shed was blown into a ‘dangerous position’ by the wind and had to be dismantled and secured by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

They were at the scene between 12.22pm and 1.37pm.

Later, a crew from Selsey needed to cordon off an area around a large tree on a public footpath in Bonnar Road, which was affected by the high wind.

They were at the scene for ten minutes around 2.30pm.

Around 2.45pm, a fire crew from Chichester was called to a cottage in West Lavant, where a marquee measuring 8m by 3m was blown on to the side elevation of a house.

Firefighters removed the marquee.
