Tim Peake reveals his '˜dream' for future space adventure

The entire city has been left beaming with pride following Tim Peake's return, however the Chichester astronaut is already plotting his next space adventure.

After a six-month mission on the International Space Station, which saw Peake take part in a number of scientific experiments, a space walk and the London marathon, the ESA astronaut safely landed in Kazakhstan on Saturday.

However, just days after securing his feet firmly back on the ground, Peake admitted he has his sights set on more space missions – and one particular destination is top of his list.

In a press conference, Tim said he ‘would do it again in a heartbeat’, adding that he would be grateful for any mission, but his ‘dream’ would be to go to the moon.

“Another long duration mission – absolutely,” added Major Peake. “I think my dream would have to be a lunar exploration mission. I don’t think any astronaut would turn that down.”

Tim’s dad Nigel, 74, of Westbourne, was relieved to see his son safely back on Earth, and said: “It was one of the most incredible moments of our lives to watch that landing.”

The 44-year-old father-of-two is now in Cologne, Germany, where he is recovering after spending half a year in zero gravity.

Nigel Peake added: “We’ve seen Tim a couple of times at the centre, where he’s having various tests, and he’s in great spirits. Now he’s looking forward to a quiet time with his wife and two sons.”

Tim’s mum Angela said the re-entry had been the trickiest part of the operation but admitted that the family was very relaxed during the 50-minute re-entry and landing process.

She added the experience was something that she would never forget and that Tim’s spacewalk was a major highlight of his space odyssey.

Joining in the nationwide following of Tim Peake’s arrival was Chichester High School for Boys – Peake’s old secondary school.

The school has said: “Everyone is delighted that our former student Tim Peake has return to Earth safely.”

“Tim’s mission has certainly engaged a significant amount of school children and his superb pictures have given us an insight into the world above us.”

Chichester’s mayor, Cllr Peter Budge said: “The whole city is very proud of Tim – we have been following his every step. We look forward to seeing him in Chichester again and we are all very pleased Tim and his colleagues are now back on Earth and safe – I am sure he has had a wonderful ride.”
