Traditional Chichester harvest

Visitors have the chance to be part of a traditional harvest at the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum's autumn countryside show on Saturday and Sunday, October 10 and 11.

The annual celebration of rural life gives a glimpse of the past, a time in which the whole community was involved in harvesting crops and preparing the land for the following year.

Visitors to the museum can expect to see heavy horses of all breeds, vintage tractors and a steam-driven threshing machine in action over the course of the weekend.

The animals and machines will be hard at work ploughing the soil to remind visitors of a way of life that existed only a few generations ago.

The ever-popular horses and tractors will be accompanied by gundog and falconry displays, horse-drawn wagon rides around the museum's most beautiful areas and a fun dog show on the Sunday.

This year's craft demonstrations and stalls will be centred around a woodland theme.

Visitors will be able to browse lots of different trade stands featuring wooden carvings and other items from the countryside, with perhaps the chance to pick up some early Christmas presents.
