Two members of the Coastguard Mud Rescue Team made their way out to the young girls following a shout at 6.40pm.

Dressed in full mud rescue suits and with mud rescue equipment, the crew members were able to extract the girls from the mud and the rest of the team winched them back to safety.

After making sure they were warm and unharmed, both girls were reunited with their families.

Both lifeboats from RNLI Hayling Island Lifeboat Station attended and were on hand if needed, and Portsmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were paged and on route.

In an emergency out at sea or along the coast dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

If you get stuck in the mud stay calm and try not to move, sit down if possible and spread your weight and call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
