TRAFFIC UPDATE: Survey could cause road delays for next two weeks

Drivers were pulled into a lay-by by Sussex Police on behalf of Highways England during their morning commute today (Wednesday, June 24).

This is part of a survey to provide information on journeys made by car and good vehicle drivers, which will help decide on improvements to the A27 at Arundel and through Worthing and Lancing.

This morning, cars were pulled over on the A283 near Dacre Gardens, Upper Beeding; A24 north of Offington Roundabout, Worthing; and the A27 eastbound at Lancing.

In Lancing, the road was down to one lane, with a 40mph speed limit in place – with a 50mph speed limit in place just past the Adur flyover as drivers approach.

Stuart Miller of Highways England told the Herald that this is being conducted at peak times to help build accurate data of the roads.

He said: “We do understand this may cause some delays to some drivers, but the overall benefits will out weight this overtime.

“If someone is asked to pull over by a police officer they will have to, but they do not have to take part in the survey.

“Police will try not to cause too much of a problem at times of congestion. It’s simply being done to collect data of a high quality.”

Mr Miller added that this will continue for the next two weeks, but will be in different locations each time, which will not be revealed.
