Appeal for witnesses to Bognor scrap yard fire

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fire at a scrap yard in Bognor Regis.

Emergency services were called to Ockley Road just after 6am on Monday, October 10, and remained there for most of the day while the fire was extinguished.

There were no reported injuries and the blaze is currently being treated as unexplained, police said in a statement.

According to Sussex Police, a 34-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent and bailed until November 7 while police enquiries continue.

Detective constable Jon Tizzard said: “I’m pleased to say that no one was hurt by the fire and there was very little damage caused.

“Were you in the area from around 5am that morning? Did you see anyone acting suspiciously? If so we would really like to hear from you.”
