FLOOD WARNING: Alert issued for Thorney Island to Bracklesham and Medmerry

This morning (Thursday, October 27) the Environment Agency has issued a warning the coastal stretch between Thorney Island and Bracklesham – including Bosham, West Itchenor and West Wittering – could flood when high tide hits the area at 12.03pm.

A warning has also been issued for the coastal areas around Medmerry, Selsey.

Ian Bowler of the flood forecasting team at the EA said: “This is the lowest level of flood alerts. We are not expecting property flooding or any major disruptions. Levels show it could be the third highest tide of the year with a little surge of water on top of the waves. That is why we put the flood warning out.”

The EA’s Floodline said that flooding is possible and for residents to be prepared. Low-lying areas by the coast will be affected first.

It said for residents to be careful if walking along any of the local beaches or promenades. It added farmers should consider moving live stock if they are close to the coast.
