Two kayakers had to be rescued by the coastguard from the mud flats off Emsworth after getting stuck.
The kayakers were left stranded on the receding tide yesterday (Wednesday, August 3) at around 7pm, but were brought safely to shore after an hour and a half rescue operation.
Maggie Gebbet watched the drama unfold from her back garden in Maisemore Gardens.
“It was a really nasty night, if they had been left there, it would not have been good news,” she said.
“We would not have seen them or heard them shouting.
“They had to be winched in across the mud which is really treacherous to try and walk on.
“They looked really cold and tired by the time they got in.”
