A WOMAN has been taken to hospital by air ambulance after a collision in Birdham.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “A woman has been taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.
“It is not clear at this stage how many other people were in the car and the extent of their injuries.”
It is believed the woman was suffering from head injuries.
Police, fire crews and the ambulance service were called to Bell Lane, just after 9am after a car hit a brick wall.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the roof was removed to cut the casualty from the vehicle.
A second casualty was checked over by the ambulance service and released.
The A286 through Birdham, to and from the Witterings, remains closed and drivers are advised to use an alternative route.
The road is expected to be closed for a further two hours while officers are investigating the incident..
