Triplets' parents speak of their '˜emotional ride'

The triplets are finally together at home after a two-month ordeal for one of them and their anxious parents.

Since they were born on April 21, Penny has needed specialist treatment for a number of problems after all three were born prematurely.

Parents Rachel Ballard and Kris Moyse, from Middleton, have been on an ‘emotional ride’ but finally they are starting life as a family of seven, with Penny now home to join her siblings William and Polly, and Rachel’s two other young children.

“It certainly has been an ordeal,” Kris told the Observer this week. “From getting our little Penny home three times as she yo-yoed from St Richard’s to home as her health fluctuated.

“It’s been such a huge emotional ride since they joined us on planet earth.

“I had almost four weeks off of work through holiday and paternity leave and I still don’t feel like my feet have touched the ground.”

The triplets were born at 32 weeks, on the Queen’s 90th.

Kris said: “Penny’s doing so much better.

“She still has her feeding tube in to ensure she is getting enough calories which is our main focus at the moment.

“She is feeding much better orally and is gaining at a steady rate now she is home, currently sitting at 5lbs and 2oz, with William sitting about where he should at 6lb 2oz and Polly streaky ahead at an impressive 6lb 7oz.”

Kris, who calls Rachel ‘supermummy’, added: “Yes, having triplets is one of the hardest things we have or will ever do, but I must say when the feeds are done, bums are changed and babes are gazing into space with their beautiful blues, we do sit back and realise just how lucky we are.”

“Sure things will inevitably get harder as they require more stimulation, weaning and the inevitable sickness and chicken pox come a’knockin, but we love our trio more than we could ever have imagined and even with odds against us, we are truly blessed we made it this far.”
