UPDATE: Man charged with drink driving after Petworth antiques shop crash

A 21-year-old has been charged with drink driving after a car crashed into a Petworth antiques shop in the early hours of Sunday morning (May 31).

Augustus Brandt Antiques, in Pound Street, Petworth, sustained damage to its frontage following the crash on Sunday.

Police said Steven Mann, 21, has been charged with driving while over the legal alcohol limit, and has been bailed until June 16.

Firefighters were also called to the incident at 1am on Sunday, and made the scene safe before leaving it with police.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “A man whose car crashed into a Petworth shop in the early hours of Sunday morning (May 31) has been charged with drink driving.

“A patrolling police unit came across a Peugeot 206 that had driven into the front of an antiques shop around 12.40am.

“The driver was still with the car and was arrested after failing a roadside breath test.

“An external door of the shop was knocked down and part of a wall demolished in the collision. The car had significant front end damage.

“Steven Mann, 21, a landscape gardener of Haglands Lane, West Chiltington, was charged with driving a motor vehicle when alcohol above limit.

“He was bailed to appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on June 16.”
