Victory for Nutbourne as housing application is refused

It was a small victory for the village of Nutbourne after an application for five homes was refused by Chichester District Council’s planning committee.

The proposal looked to demolish Moola House, off Main Road, and build the new homes in its place.

Chidham and Hambrook Parish councillor, Linda Wilkinson, said: “This proposal is not only contrary to the Chidham and Hambrook Neighbourhood plan, but the issue foul water drainage will just get worse if this is approved.

“We also have serious traffic concerns, the access for this site is onto the narrow and busy A259.”

Cllr Wilkinson added: “Adding in these cramped homes ignores the character of the local area.”

CDC agreed with the objections presented and refused the plan after councillors voiced concerns about ‘over development of the area’ and ‘insufficient information on how the drainage problem will be addressed’.

Cllr Cullen said: “The main issue here seems to be with foul water drainage. We have got flooding in this area already, we can see this from letters from objectors.”

Cllr Oakley agreed, stating that the ground water levels are already high in the area.

He added that the character of the edge of the boundary should be respected.
