A FATHER-OF-THREE lit up the eyes of many children with his eighth charity Christmas light switch-on which was the biggest yet.
Wayne Thair, 49, turned on a dazzling display of lights at his home in Exton Road on Monday night with the help of Spirit FM radio presenter Milly Luxford.
“It’s nice to do it for St Wilfrid’s,” said Wayne.
“Everybody knows someone who’s been hurt by cancer. People always come up and say their glad I’ve chosen that charity.”
A crowd of parents and children gathered around for the light ceremony and made donations in return for hot drinks, mulled wine and mince pies.
Wayne said the day was made extra special because it was is wife Christine’s 40th birthday.
Wayne raised around £300 with last year’s display and he said he hoped to raise more this year with the help of better weather and more publicity.
He said he heard Milly talking about his fund raiser on the radio on Tuesday morning so he was confident word would spread far.
“I’ve got more lights this year as well. I don’t have a clue how many though!”
A donation box will be outside his home throughout December.
