But today Blue Cross, which has a Sussex-based rehoming centre, has unveiled a unique tribute to the animal-loving Queen on her 90th birthday - the world’s first all-animal rendition of Happy Birthday, made with the help of some of the pets at the leading pet charity.

In the 90 years since Queen Elizabeth’s birth – or roughly 500 ‘dog years’ - the Blue Cross has helped thousands of pets find new homes, and today a handful of those pets including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, horses and chinchillas, contributed to the one-of-a-kind track, especially created for Her Majesty’s big day.

The menagerie of sounds were recorded by the pets at the Blue Cross rehoming centres across the country, and then remixed into the familiar song. Mary, a one-year-old Staffie cross Blue Cross dog visited Buckingham Palace with a birthday card ahead of the Queen’s 90th birthday.

The track and accompanying heart-warming music video stars Blue Cross pets who are seeking new homes, including four week old kittens Pippa, Freddie, Holly and Rosie – who were found with their mum in a tree trunk by a tree surgeon who was about to cut the tree down – as well as Fly the dog, who recently celebrated her 16th birthday - what could be seen as the equivalent of the Queen’s age in human years.

Maria Steel, Blue Cross rehoming centre Manager at Northiam in East Sussex, said of the recording: “From corgis to horses, we know that the Queen loves being surrounded by animals, so we wanted to mark her 90th year by creating this version of Happy Birthday, featuring so many of our wonderful pets who are seeking new homes!”
