Sussex Police have released footage of Matthew Daley expressing how he felt after stabbing a pensioner 39 times.
Daley, who suffers from Asperger’s with symptoms of psychosis, was cleared of murdering Don Lock but convicted of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
In the interview with police, Daley said he was ‘not happy that the man had died’ and that ‘in the final minute of his life he was in that much pain’.
He added: “I feel very sorry about what I have done and I don’t want to see anything like that happen in my lifetime again”.
The trial took place at Lewes Crown Court, and the jury returned their verdict today (May 16).
Following the verdict, the family of Don Lock issued a statement which paid tribute to the 79-year-old and the head of the NHS trust that administers treatment for Daley admitted failings in their care.
Daley will be sentenced on July 8.
