Views sought on changes to West Sussex youth services

A PUBLIC consultation on changes to West Sussex County Council services for young people and their families has been launched.

A council spokesman said changes to Youth Support and Development Services (YSDS) would focus resources on the most vulnerable young people.

This would include those at risk of offending or re-offending and those not in education, employment or training.

Proposed changes include the council only running youth centres in communities identified as being in the greatest need.

“We need to consider new and imaginative ways to provide services,” said Peter Evans, member for children and families.

“A number of youth activities have already been taken over by the voluntary sector and local community groups.

“We are keen to find out what more can be done to support this Big Society agenda.”

So far, a review of youth services has saved £2million.

A further £2million must be saved over the next three years if the council is to reach its target of cutting spending by £79million.

The consultation will run until Friday, October 14.
