AN ENTHUSIASTIC fundraiser from West Ashling has filled her entire spare room to bursting with around 100 bags filled with clothes to be donated to the British Heart Foundation.
Barbara Batams, who leads the Chichester Slimming World Group has encouraged fellow slimmers to rally to the cause and donate their old and unwanted clothes to the charity –and they haven’t let her down.
Barbara said: “It is a great feeling that a group of people who are getting healthy are helping other people to get healthy too.
“The cause is really close to me because my husband suffered with heart problems, and the help and support that he received was amazing. I just wanted to help such a good cause, and give something back to say thank you.”
Despite the fact one of Barbara’s rooms is completely out of action, she isn’t stopping there.
“I want to keep going because each filled bag is worth £20, and just one bag can help to provide expert care at home for heart patients and their families.”
Fifty bags can help diagnose heart disease by bringing in scanners to hospitals and community clinics to ensure that patients get effective diagnosis and treatment.
Becky Hilsdon, manager of Chichester’s branch of the British Heart Foundation, said: “What an achievement to collect so many bags.”
