Residents cheered when an application to build 16 homes in Westbourne was refused by Chichester District Council today.
The planning committee decided against the application to build on land north of Long Copse Lane, despite a recommendation to permit.
The main reason given was the impact that the development would have on the rural nature of the village.
Around 30 members of public attended the meeting and they cheered when they heard the decision.
