Woman dies at East Wittering

A woman who was pulled from the sea at East Wittering beach this afternoon has died at the scene, according to police.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Emergency services were called to East Witterings beach where a woman had been pulled from the sea at 2.40pm on Monday (June 19).

“Sadly the woman died at the scene.

“She is believed to be in her 80s and local to the Witterings.

“Her death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been informed.”

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) said: “Ambulance crews including a critical car paramedic attended the scene following reports a woman had been pulled from the water.

“The air ambulance service also attended the scene.
“Sadly efforts to resuscitate the woman proved unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We would like to thank everyone who tried their best to help the woman prior to our arrival.”
