I’d like to thank the Observer for drawing the attention of readers to the possibility of Bacchus selling The Inn on the Green to the Co-operative so the site might be developed into a shopping area, which would disturb the existing equilibrium on The Ridgeway Parade.
That the Co-operatiive might intend to be competitive in the area is inexplicable.
The present co-operative arrangement has satisfied people in the locality for many years – nothing more is needed.
Perhaps a better use could be found for the site, one which would enhance the estate rather than threaten it.
Should the Inn become a rival shopping facility, which I hope will not happen, the whole of the estate might show its support by boycotting it completely for as long as it exists. This may be the only effective argument a potential purchaser will understand.
