Last week’s bus cuts story on the front page of the Observer comes as no surprise.
If no-one uses the buses, there’s no reason to run them.
To get the buses full they have to be at a cost that people will leave their cars at home.
If you are travelling on your own, from Wittering to Chichester, it costs about the same as fuel for the car and parking. If a family of four adults want to travel to Chichester and return to Wittering, it will cost nearly £20 to travel the return journey.
The only time I have seen the buses full are to take children to school and back again. During the day, most passengers are travelling for free as they have bus passes.
