Subsidies for students?

OVER THE years I have had a number of students living in my house.

Until recently, it has come to my attention that a number of students are applying for Job Seekers’ Allowance.

It seems that, although they are supposedly on a full-time course, they are going to the Job Centre and filling in forms to enable them to claim £50 per week.

We already offer them cheap lodging which is taxable, can affect single council tax status and also has home insurance implications, as well as increasing the gas and electricity bills. T

hey are not contributing anything in the way of tax or NI to this country.

Can someone explain to me why we are subsidising to this extent?

I thought as a country we were trying to make savings.

Are we totally naive or what?
