KFC announced: “The fried chicken gurus at KFC are introducing a permanent vegan offering featuring the famous 11 herbs and spices, and it’s Finger Lickin’ Good.

“Until now, vegans have denied the opportunity to enjoy the iconic Original Recipe flavour, as created by the Colonel back in 1952.”

The chicken burger will be made with a “bespoke” Quorn fillet, which is then coated in the iconic herbs and spices. It will be served along with vegan mayonnaise, crisp iceberg lettuce and a soft-glazed bun.

Ira Dubinsky, Innovation Director at KFC UK and Ireland said: “The Colonel was all about welcoming everyone to his table – now vegans, flexitarians and our fried chicken fans can all enjoy the taste of our Original Recipe together.

“We’ve worked hard to perfect the flavour and make a Vegan Burger the Colonel would be proud of. It’s the flavour of KFC, just with zero chicken. ”

Where and when will it be available?

The new vegan friendly burger will be available to try for yourself on Thursday 2 January.

KFC has confirmed that it will be launching in KFC restaurants nationwide, and will also be available for delivery exclusively with food delivery app Just Eat.

Trialled earlier this year

The vegan chicken burger debuted earlier this year with a limited trial in London, Bristol and the Midlands during the summer.

KFC dubbed the trail as “staggeringly successful” as the burger sold out within four days. Demand was over 500 per cent higher than predicted and KFC Gloucester Road sold roughly one burger per minute in the first days of the launch.

Since then, KFC has seen thousands of pleas to bring the burger back and make it available for everyone - which it is now doing by rolling it out nationwide and making it a permanent feature on the menu.
