DOWN MEMORY LANE Second World War memories

“My father was in the Army.

“Mother, my sister and I lived at home and at that particular time, the air raid warning sirens were usually at night.

“It was a wailing sound on a hooter – the all-clear siren was a continuous hoot.

“We always kept a small suitcase containing a set of clothes to take to the shelter because if our house was bombed while we were in the shelter, we would have some clothes to wear during the daytime.

“The suitcase was always permanently packed and it gave us something on which to sit.

“When the case was eventually opened, my lovely green jumper it contained was full of moth holes!”
