Action between the University of Chichester's Spitfires and their London visitors

Opponents City University London got on the scoreboard at the end of the first half. Their defence picked off a pass 30 yards out and ran the interception back for the touchdown.

City added another six points in what was to prove a tense second half, a running-back bulldozing over into the right-hand corner of the Spitfires’ endzone.

Quarter-back Justin Parker ignited a large home crowd when he found Matthew Lake to peg the score back to 12-6.

The Spitfires worked the clock nicely on a drive that took them down to the eight-yard line with less than a minute left. City defended resolutely and the Spitfires were unable to convert on any of their last four downs.

In the midweek fixtures, other University of Chichester teams progressed to the next rounds of the South Eastern Conference Cup.

The men’s first basketball team, who are on a good run of form, beat Greenwich 64-53. The men’s table tennis team pipped Royal Holloway 14-3 and men’s volleyball shut out Roehampton 3-0.

In the trophy, the netball first team edged past Cardiff Met 40-37.
