Arun gymnasts enjoy more medal magic

Fourteen members of Arun Gymnastics Club returned to the Fareham School of Gymnastics for a four-piece invitational competition.

This involved the pieces of apparatus used in women’s artistic gymnastics: floor, vault, bars and beam and medals were awarded for a place on each piece and overall position.

Round one saw Megan Shepherd and Grace Callaway compete for Arun. Megan won silver for her lovely floor routine and bronze for her beam at level one (10-12 yrs).

Grace, competing in level two (8-9 yrs), finished in overall ninth position with her highest places coming from a fifth on vault and a sixth on beam.

In round two, Arun had ten gymnasts competing and they won seven medals and had seven overall top-ten finishes between them. In level two (10-11 yrs) the highest-placed Arun gymnast was Emilia Grochala, who finished fifth overall having won gold for her fantastic floor routine and placing fourth on vault and sixth on beam.

Lia-Mai Greenwell won gold for her superb beam routine and finished seventh, Anastasia Sabaydash-Janeiro placed fourth on bars, fifth on vault and sixth on floor to finish overall eighth and Cerys Dickinson finished overall ninth, helped by a fourth place on beam.

In the level two (12-13 years) Brooklyn Santer-Smith won gold when her outstanding vault scored an impressive 12 points. Along with a fourth place on beam that helped her to bronze for overall third.

Megan Briggs and Isabella Woodward competed in the level two (14+ years) where Isabella finished fifth having won bronze on both beam and floor and placed sixth on floor and fourth on bars while Megan won bronze for her vault.

Arun’s final three gymnasts competed in the last round and won a magnificent total of nine medals between them.

In the level four (14+ years) Jenna Partridge won silvers for second place on both floor and beam and two bronzes on vault and bars which helped her to overall third position and another bronze medal to take her tally to five.

Emily Day was also competing in this age group and finished her competition with three medals. She put in an excellent bars routine to place second and win silver, won bronze on floor and narrowly missed out on two other medals when she finished fourth on vault and beam.

Her final points tally was enough to place her just above Jenna in overall second and win her another silver.

Erin Green competed in the level three (12+ yrs) and and finished overall sixth after winning a silver medal for her strong second-place vault and placing fourth on beam and sixth on floor.

Arun finished with 18 medals and coaches Tracey and Maddie Angell were very pleased with the level of performance.
