Basketball's back - and Bognor Pirates want your support

National League basketball returns to The Arena sports centre in Bognor with the start of the new English basketball league season.

Following promotion to division three south last season, the Bognor Pirates compete again at that level this term.

Club president David Lowe said: “There will be exciting National League games to watch this season and I’m pleased to announce Kevin Robbins, a very experienced basketball coach, will be the head coach.

“Most of the players will return from last season and the team will be strengthened by the return after a year out of Rob Stapely.

“From our junior club, Bognor Royals, last year’s under-16 England player Luke Attfield, who is 7ft tall, will join the team and hoping for game time. It will be a big step up for Luke but he has always wanted to play for the Pirates.”

The first game will be on Tuesday (Oct 4) in the National Shield against Crawley at The Arena - next to The Regis School - with an 8pm tip-off.

To encourage new spectators and thank their loyal supporters, the Pirates are letting spectrators in free of charge.

There will be music, a DJ and a raffle.

All other games are played on Saturday evenings, starting at 7pm – see www.bognorpirates.co.uk for more.
