Boxing: Chisanga bounces back after Eubank loss

CHICHESTER boxing starlet Mywenya Chisanga got quickly back to winning ways after his recent loss to Harlem Eubank in the novice championships.

St Gerards ABC coach Jon Mills said the novice event was a big learning curve for Chisanga, who started too slowly against Eubank and came back too late to gain a victory.

There was only one point between them in each round, with the Chichester man having a big last round but not quite able to do enough.

But when St Gerards travelled to the Heart of Portsmouth club show, Chisanga was up against home boxer Ahmed Adenas over three two-minute rounds at light welterweight.

Mills said: “Ahmed had more experience than Mwenya and he boxed at under 67kg in the recent novice championships in the weight above Mwenya’s category.

“So we knew it would be tough but we thought Mwenya could get a win with his natural skill and strength coming into play.

“The first round was a slow starter with both boys feeling each other out as they can both bang big-time - and it could have gone either way.

“The second was much the same but we thought Mwenya just edged it. When he came back at the end of the second, he had major cramps in his legs and I told him now was time to dig deep and he sure did that.

“It was another cracker with big shots flying all over the place with Mwenya getting the upper hand in the flurry of exchanges from both boxers.

“The end result was a majority points decision for Mwenya which is never easy to get against a home boxer, but it was a very well deserved victory for him.

“We want to keep him busy and in shape for any future championships he can enter.”
