Chichester boxing club are knocked out by police generosity

St Gerards Amateur Boxing Club have received a cheque for £200 from Sussex police.

It comes from the force’s property act fund and has gone to the boxing club to support their work in addressing anti-social behaviour in the community.

The cheque was handed to coach Gareth Ferguson and a number of club members by ‘pugilistic PCSO Pete Outen, who also boxes for the club.

Ferguson said: “We wholly appreciate any amount of money received in helping us stay alive - the cheque from Sussex police will do just that.

“We must be doing something right for the police to award us with a grant and we thank them very much.”

The club’s young prospect Billy Lavelle is continuing his preparations for his professional debut at York Hall, London, on Saturday, October 8. Tickets are available on 07716 228945.
