Chichester students find winning ways on BUCS circuit

A TOTAL of 23 University of Chichester sports teams were in action with ten victories in all.

The men’s football club enjoyed their afternoon with three wins and a draw - the winning teams including the fourth and fifth teams routing Sussex and Kingston 4-1 and 6-1 respectively.

The men’s and women’s hockey second teams enjoyed away wins, the men defeating LSE 5-2 and the women 5-0 victors over Brunel II.

The netball club enjoyed three away wins. After back-to-back promotions, the fourth team defeated New Bucks 40-19.

The third team won a close encounter 31-27 against Sussex seconds and the first team defeated Sussex rivals Brighton 40-31 to maintain their 100 per cent record.

There were also wins for the men’s basketball first team and men’s tennis.

Last Wednesday, 26 sports teams were in action with 12 winning.

The men’s basketball side put in an all-round team performance to win 85-72 away to Surrey and maintain their 100 per cent winning start.

The men’s badminton team, after a tough opening-day loss to Portsmouth, bounced back with an emphatic 7-1 win over Imperial College at the Bishop Otter Campus.

Both men’s hockey teams enjoyed success - the seconds defeated Imperial College IV 3-0 away from home while on campus the first team led by captain Nathan Palmer routed Brunel 4-1.

There were home wins for men’s lacrosse (10-6 over Reading), women’s tennis (10-2 over Surrey) and a Titanic 36-35 victory for the netball first team over Kings Medics.

In Bristol, the women’s football first team won 3-0 thanks to goals from Alex Hammond and Claire Singh.

There were also victories for men’s football thirds and fifths, the women’s football seconds and men’s tennis.
