Chichester's star duo leave their rivals standing

EIGHT members of Chichester Runners & AC took part in the end-of-season multi-event Sussex championships at Broadbridge Heath.

The under-15 duo of Isobel Brown and Nathalie Godden produced the best performances, winning gold and silver respectively.

So dominant were they that the rest of the field ended up 200 points adrift.

Brown won gold through the sheer consistency of her scores, starting with a 4.63m long jump followed by 13.8sec for the hurdles, 8.33m in the shot, 1.48m in the high jump and a 2.41.5 800m for 2,479 points '“ five better than her previous best.

Godden set a string of personal bests and bettered Brown's marks in the long jump at 4.63m, hurdles in 13.1sec and the 800m with 2.40.5. Her 2,431 total was impressive.

Sophie Millett just got the better of Jo Richardson in the under-20 heptathlon finishing with 2,824 points in fifth with Richardson sixth on 2,783.

Millett saved her best until last with an 800m in 2.37, while Richardson's best score was from a 1.54 high jump.

Best finishing position among the boys was fourth place from Jamie Moore in the under-17 octathlon with an impressive all-round display including personal bests in the long jump (5.05m) and high jump (1.60m).

Aaron Andrews emerged with credit in his first pentathlon with fifth place in the under-13 event while Ollie Pickersgill set a number of personal bests to finish sixth in the under-15s.

Charlie Roe's early score put him second after an excellent 6.32m in the long jump and good scores in the 100m, high jump, shot and 400m.

But a no-height mark in the pole vault put paid to his chances of featuring in the final analysis.

He has a chance to make amends in the end-of-season English schools' final at Bedford this weekend.
