It is part of an ECB drive to make cricket more exciting for the age group and get them to engage with the modern game and their club.

Chichester Priory Park Lions have been drawn in the west region with Worthing CC, East Preston CC and Chippingdale CC. The winner of this group goes on to Hove to play the winners of the central and east regions.

These are T20 matches with the intention that clubs re-create at a local level the excitement of NatWest T20 Blast matches. Clubs can get extra points awarded by the opposing teams for their matchday experience.

Coloured kits are a must and Marchwood IFA of Chichester have provided a full kit for the Chichester squad.

Chichester have already played away to East Preston and at home to Chippingdale. Remaining fixtures are: July 5, Worthing (H); July 19, East Preston (H); July 24, Chippingdale (A); Aug 23, Worthing (A).

After a thumping victory over East Preston in their opening match, the Chichester Lions suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Worthing Chippendales at Priory Park.

Sporting their new navy and green kit, Chichester skipper Ben Caldera won the toss and decided to bat first.

The hosts were confident after smashing 275 batting first in their opening match and this was portrayed by opener Beck Hemmingway, who smashed a quickfire fifty from 35 balls to give Chichester a great start.

However, Worthing picked up wickets at regular intervals as Chichester posted 147 all-out from their 20 overs.

Caldera (1-25) and Tom Phizackerly (1-25) were impressive with the ball for Chichester, but it was an impressive run chase from Worthing which saw the visitors to victory.

Openers J Bourne (45) and B Hounsome (50) particularly impressed as Worthing reached the target in the penultimate over.

For his explosive half-century at the start of Chichester’s innings, Hemmingway was named the Marchwood man of the match.
