It's a (Sussex) slog for young cricketers

Two ten-year-old boys combined their love for cricket with raising more than £2,000 for Sussex charity the Sussex Snowdrop Trust by playing the inaugural invitation Sussex Slog cricket match, at Watersfield CC.Â

The Dillshambles team was captained by Dill Howell and Toby’s Tons by Toby Barton.  

More than £2,000 was raised for the Sussex Snowdrop Trust through match fees, and generous donations to a raffle and auction from parents and local businesses.

Toby said: “It was a hard fought and thrilling match but the Shambles were too strong for us this year and beat us by 11 runs. We will get our revenge next year!”

Dill added: “They were a great opposition – let’s keep the competition going for years to come!”

Goodwood v Havant

Goodwood recorded their 14th victory of 2016 on a stunning afternoon.

Havant won the toss and elected to bat first. They made 172 for eight off 40 overs.

Paul Terry took three for 33, Richard Geffen two for 24 and there were wickets for Matt Beard, Mike Smith and a Charlie Futcher run out. Tim Odell took two catches and a stumping.

In reply Charlie Futcher played superbly for his 60 to set up the win. Johnny Heaven played very responsibly for 52 not out. Mike Smith and Pete Lamb both made 14.
