League officials are hopeful they will be able to start the 2021 campaign on time, although that will of course depend on lockdown restrictions being eased before the start and grass-roots sport being permitted.

Last summer, the Covid pandemic forced the cancellation of the league programme but clubs were able to play an August Cup tournament instead.

The competitive season did not start until August 1.

The opening day – Saturday, May 8 – will see champions Roffey at home to Cuckfield in a tasty start to the season.

Other premier division games that day are: Hastings & St Leonards Priory v East Grinstead ; Haywards Heath v Brighton & Hove; Preston Nomads CC v Eastbourne; Three Bridges v Middleton.

Division two begins on the same day with Horsham hosting Lindfield. Other games: Burgess Hill v Bognor Regis ; Chichester Priory Park v Roffey 2nds; Mayfield v Preston Nomads ; St James’s Montefiore v Billingshurst.

The division three east games for May 8 are: Brighton & Hove 2nd v St Peters ; Crawley Eagles v Seaford; Eastbourne 2nd v Ifield; Portslade v Glynde & Beddingham; Rye v Bexhill.

And in division three west, it’s Goring v Worthing ; Henfield v Ansty; Littlehampton, Clapham & Patching v Findon; Pagham v Broadwater; Slinfold v West Chiltington & Thakeham.
