Here are the reports...

St Andrews v Aldwick 1

West Sussex Invitation League div two

Weary after a week-long tour of the Isle of Wight, Aldwick found it hard to muster up enough energy to overturn St Andrews and lost by 76 runs in a rain-interrupted match.

Batting first, St Andrews opener Alex Ellis (7) fell early on to Ollie Smith (1-47) but then Owen Male (43) joined Nick Elkins (17) at the crease and they took their side’s score to 68 before Elkis became the first of Josh Sargeant’s two victims (2-20).

However, the best was yet to come for the home side as Adam Chilcott’s well-made 70 ensured his team finished on a respectable 204-8 after 44 overs.

Aldwick were thankful for Adam Robinson’s bowling spell which restricted the run rate and produced two wickets for 20 off 12 overs.

Because of the weather, Aldwick had just 35 overs to reach their target but in the end they were nowhere near as they tumbled to 128 all out in the 31st over.

Adam Robinson (36) and Scott Bingham (30) weighted in with useful contributions but there was little else to show for as J J Davies (3-7) and Alex Ellis (3-16) wreaked havoc taking the visitors from 93-4 to 128 all out.

Hopefully, after a week’s rest, Aldwick should fare better this week at home to Brighton & Hove III.

East Preston v Selsey

Division two

Selsey suffered a six-wicket defeat away to promotion-chasing East Preston.

Having elected to bat Selsey recorded 219 for seven. There were contributions from Tim Fewster (43), Nic Nolan (41), Nick Horner (40), Dave Benham (35) and Josh Stocks (29).

Pick of the EP bowling was Jack Sunderland with two for 25.

Selsey didn’t start well with the ball and their wayward bowling was punished ‎as Tim Miles scored a good 80 to set up victory for EP.

Selsey clawed it back in the second half but were never really in with a chance, though they did pick up bonus points.

A home game awaits against leaders Worthing Chipps this Saturday, with Selsey hoping they can put both aspects of the game together to back up some of the good work so far achieved this season.

Aldwick 2nd v St Andrews 2nd

Division six

Consistent batting from St Andrews twos’ top half, complemented by wickets shared among their bowling attack, earned the visitors an easy victory over Aldwick by 96 runs.

The opening pair of Paul Watson (48) and Adam Hills (36) piled on 83 before Watson finally fell to Lara Johnson (1-17).

The other notable partnership of St Andrews’ innings was an unbroken partnership between Raymond Cully (50*) and Joe Russell (22*) who, despite the 50-year age gap between them, took the total to 183-4 from 40 overs with a partnership of 61 runs. In between, Liam Hicks bagged 2-22 from six overs.

In reply, Aldwick lost opener Tom Hoare in the first over for a duck to Oliver Byatt (2-14). Matt Davies (13), Chris Redman (10), Dion Sampson (17) and Harry Rosser (20) all made runs but the bottom half of the batting line-up capitulated and the home side were rolled over for just 89.

Credit to Freddie Nehls (2-21), Nick Ellis (2-10), and Joe Russell (3-6) for their wicket-taking efforts but it was a poor performance from Aldwick, who are now in the relegation zone.

Division ten west

In indifferent weather at the Tangmere Oval, Chichester elected to bat. Bognor’s Ben Woolnough kept the ball full to snare Will Parker leg-before for five but Steve Parker and Richard Creswick combined to see Chichester forward.

A high run chase was looming for Bognor but a fine low catch at mid-off from Woolnough off skipper John Hooker saw Parker depart for 36 and ending a 99-run partnership.

Hooker had Sam Price caught at short cover by Dan Winslow for three, Creswick stumped by Joe Bennett for a well-played 46 and Roger Smith leg before for two to finish with four for 15.

Winslow took three for two and Chichester were dismissed for 138.

Chichester’s seamers bowled themselves back into the game with a wicket apiece for Smith, Creswick, Price, Andy Crookham and Graham Bennison but Bognor’s Babs Ahmed’s 54 kept the game evenly poised.

A huge downpour saw the players come off but with Chichester ahead on runs scored, they won the game by 21 runs under league rules.

n Last week, bad weather intervened to leave Middleton Academy and Bognor thirds with a draw in division ten west at the Tangmere Oval.

Bognor skipper John Hooker took career-best figures of four for 28 but with Middleton on 150 for four, the elements took over.
